]u[ Ubiquity is delighted to announce the launch of LIRA, Boston College Law School’s brand new repository.

]u[ Ubiquity and NELLCO have organised a special deal, which BC Law is the first NELLCO member to benefit from. Any other NELLCO member joining will benefit from a federated search, encompassing all of the content from NELLCO’s ]u[ Ubiquity repositories.

After 10+ years with bepress Digital Commons from Elsevier, the migration to ]u[ Repositories also includes moving the Boston College Law Review to the professional publishing open access platform supplied by ]u[ Ubiquity.

Avi Bauer, Scholarly Librarian at BC Law, who has been overseeing the 4-month migration and setup process by ]u[ Ubiquity staff, answers some questions:

What was the reason why you chose to move away from Digital Commons?

We had been looking to move away from Digital Commons for some time, largely due to a combination of cost and a desire to find an open source provider whose values aligned more closely with our own commitment to open access.

Why did you chose ]u[ Ubiquity Repositories over other providers?

We knew that we didn’t have the staff or know-how to host a repository on our own, so among hosted repository solutions we found Ubiquity to be appealing in terms of affordability; modern look, feel, and functionality; and commitment to open access principles and the open source community.

How did the whole migration/new repository setup go?

The setup and migration process was much more straightforward than we expected. The Ubiquity team worked closely with us to address the particular needs of our repository structure and content, and were consistently responsive to our questions during the process.
